Experience

Nicholas Comfort’s career in journalism spans 54 years and over 30 countries. He spent almost 20 years as a Lobby correspondent at Westminster and two in Washington with the Daily Telegraph, and has covered EU affairs intermittently between the referenda of 1975 and 2016. He has written editorials for the Daily Telegraph and the Sun, and been political editor of the Independent on Sunday, the European and the Daily Record. He is currently a freelance obituarist with the Telegraph, and writes regularly for Today’s Railways.

He contributed a Westminster sketch to the BBC World Service for several years, has presented Radio 4’s News Stand and is a contributor to CNN. He has also appeared on University Challenge and Brain of Britain.

Nicholas was an Associate with Newington Public Affairs. He has previously worked in public affairs with Politics International (now Interel), and been presentational consultant on Europe for the DTI, special advisor to the Secretary of State for Scotland and government advisor to QinetiQ plc.

Nicholas was born on 4 August 1946, and educated at Highgate School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He is married with three children and two grandchildren. His main outside interests are the Bluebell Railway, Essex County Cricket Club and Sheffield United.
